We
were happy that Mark volunteered to fill the open position. Mark is
a native of the Atlanta area, 45 years, and moved into Berkeley Walk
with his family in October, '02. They had lived around the corner for
6 years off Lou Ivey. His wife's name is Melanie, and he has 3 children-Tiffany
16, Ben 7, Zach 4. Mark works as a Mortgage Lender for Countrywide Home
Loans and has a BBA in Finance. For exercise, Mark enjoys riding his
bike around Lakeshore Drive. He plays tennis on those days that his
son's soccer game is moved to another day. Mark is enthusiastic to serve
our community in its best interest for all to enjoy.
2004 Pool Opening and Pool Party
It
is hard to believe that summer is just around the corner! As the temperatures
begin to rise, so does everyone's urge to jump into the pool. Well,
the time has come to do just that! Our pool will officially open for
business on Saturday, May 15. The new combination for the pool and tennis
court gates will be sent out shortly. We are planning on holding a neighborhood
Pool Party the following weekend, on Sunday, May 23. There will be a
short meeting immediately following the party to give everyone an update
on the state of the neighborhood. Please watch your email for the details
of this party.
Volunteers
During the last meeting, sign-up sheets were passed around to everyone
in attendance looking for volunteers to assist (and Chair) the pool
committee and social committee. We only received a few volunteers. In
order to keep the pool area in clean, working order, we need the families
in this neighborhood to step up to the plate and play a part. We need
one household per week to monitor the pool area, put out the trash,
and inspect the restrooms in case we need to call the cleaning service
to make a special trip. With the pool opening in a few weeks, it is
important that we get this committee established. The pool is here for
our enjoyment and everyone in our neighborhood should accept a bit of
the responsibility in managing it. Please let Mark Pazol know if you
are interested in serving on, or chairing, this committee. Mark can
be emailed at Mark_Pazol@Countrywide.Com.
Fence Project
As
you can see as you drive in and out of our neighborhood, the fence project
is almost complete. One end piece of the fence needs to be replaced
due to a problem with the measurements. When you see Chuck Wilkinson
or Pamela Orkis out and about, pat them on the back for a job well done!
The fence looks great and definitely makes our neighborhood look more
elegant! Also, the pressure washing of the concrete around the clubhouse
and the stone columns has brightened up our common area! The next step
to this project is the installation of lighting. Chuck, Tom, and Sherwin
are working on getting the plan finalized and the lights installed.
It will look like a whole new entrance when all is said and done!
Covenants
I
have a whole new appreciation for covenant violations since stepping
into this job a few weeks ago! We have covenants to keep our neighborhood
looking pristine. I have been through neighborhoods that have much looser
covenants than ours and it makes me appreciate what we have! Nobody
likes receiving a notice that their flowerbeds need to be weeded, or
that their lawn needs to be trimmed, etc.! On the other hand, nobody
likes to issue these notices either! However, this process allows us
to maintain a high quality neighborhood, one which we are proud to live
in! So, please be understanding when you receive such a notice. Simply
respond to the notice stating what you intend to do to resolve the issue.
If you don't agree with the notice, respond with your reason(s) why
you disagree. We get no pleasure out of having the neighborhood inspected
for covenant violations! We get even less pleasure out of talking to
an irate neighbor who feels that his/her civil liberties have been violated!
The notices are simply that
a notice. The intent of the notice
is to tell the homeowner that something has been observed which can
be construed as a violation of the covenants. Enough said
you get
the picture! Tom Walton is the Board's liaison with the Covenants Committee.
He can be reached at tswalton@msn.com. If you have a concern about a
violation notice, Tom will be more than happy to talk to you about it.
You should direct all of your violation responses to Tom at the above
email address.
I
am looking forward to seeing you at the Pool Party. Please mark your
calendars for May 23, and take time to attend our neighborhood meeting
following the party. We have a lot of new neighbors and it would be
good to get feedback and ideas from everyone in the neighborhood!
