News
from the Board
On
January 18, during the annual meeting of the homeowner association,
three new board members were elected. We all thank the out going board
members Robin Kessler, Susan Count and Patty Thumann for their hard
work and dedication.
The
three new board members are:
Kathy
Pourmehr:
Kathy and her husband Fred have been married for 23 years. They have
3 children; a daughter attending Southern Polytechnic State University,
another daughter attending Penn State, and a son who is a 5th grader
at Berkeley Lake Elementary School. They have lived in this neighborhood
since 1996. Kathy is the President of ExcelaCom, an IT Professional
Services company headquartered in Virginia. She has a Bachelors degree
in Computer Information Systems and an MBA, both from Southwest Texas
State University in San Marcos, TX, and is currently completing work
on a Doctorate in Business Administration. She plays a lot of tennis
and table tennis, and enjoys traveling with her family at every opportunity.
Sherwin
Levinson:
Sherwin has been working with computers for four decades, running his
own consulting business full time since 1984. He is also involved in
homeland security through Infragard and preparing his own community
for disasters through the Berkeley Lake Emergency Management Agency.
He has previously served on the BWCA board and the City Council, as
a Boy Scout leader, an officer of his congregation, and a Habitat for
Humanity volunteer. He has been married to his wife Judee for almost
33 years. Their daughter, Sarah, is a computer specialist for a local
healthcare software company and their son, Marty, will be graduating
from UGA Law School in May.
Thomas
Walton:
Tom and his wife Marie bought the house from Preston and Mallory Polk
June 2000. On October 1, 2000 their daughter Ashley Marie was born and
has been a great addition to their family. Marie and Tom both work in
healthcare. His wife is an Occupational Medicine Physician and currently
works part time as a sub-investigator at Neurotrials Inc (specialize
in Neurology related clinical trials). Tom consults for various Pharmaceutical
companies and Clinical Research Organizations. He has a BA in Chemistry/Biology,
BS in Business Administration and a Medical Degree. He is looking forward
to working on the current board and becoming involved in our community.
During our first board meeting on February 1, we agreed on the following
responsibilities and positions:
President:
Heiner Fuchs. "The buck stops here"
VP: Kathy Pourmehr. Liaison for Pool and Tennis committee
Secretary: Tom Walton. Liaison for Covenant Committee
Treasurer: Chuck Wilkinson. Liaison for Landscaping Committee
Member at Large: Sherwin Levinson. Liaison for Club house committee
Landscaping:
The homeowners extended their full support for the fencing project during
the annual meeting. Details of this project were sent to all homeowners
(that have current email addresses) via email in January as part of
the business case. Construction will commence as soon weather permits.
Neighbors, as Spring approaches, many of you will begin doing landscaping/garden
projects in your yards. Please know that Chuck is a Georgia Master Gardener
and has a commitment to Gwinnett County to provide a minimum of 25 hours
of community service around providing gardening advice and answering
related questions. He would love to be able to give back a portion of
his time to his neighbors here in Berkeley Walk! Please know that if
you have specific gardening questions or just need a few ideas, he would
love to be able to offer his assistance. And he is free! :-)
Public Safety
During the annual meeting it was noted that speeding and stop sign violations
persist. Violators seem to be mainly residents. Mayor Lois Salter, who
attended the meeting, offered increased police patrol. However, we decided
to have those violators reported through the covenant process and only
use police force for repeat offenders. This is only meant to be a neighborly
reminder for those "living in the fast lane". Imminent public
safety concerns need to be reported to the police.
Tennis
Stand
For several years improvements to the tennis stand have been planned
and budgeted. However, no progress has been made. We all agreed that
we either realize the plans this year or use the budgeted monies for
other improvement processes. Kathy will work with the tennis committee
to bring this topic to closure.
Vandalism
On February 1, we noticed several paint ball splashes at the club house.
We also noticed some graffiti at the back of the club house. This act
of vandalism will not be tolerated. If the board sees anybody with a
paint gun, spraying graffiti, or committing any other act of vandalism
around the neighborhood, we will call the police, have the person arrested
and prosecuted. This is a promise! If you notice anybody committing
these acts please call the police or notify us.
