STREET
RESURFACING
I guess most of you are, to say the least disappointed about the recent
street resurfacing project. To give you some background, I spent hours
during the last year mapping the road damage and driving with city officials
through our neighborhood, to convince them that a full resurfacing is
in order.
Before
this summer, the city council appropriated $92K to repair the roads
in Berkeley Lake. Thereof Berkeley Walk received $25K. This money was
used to repair and patch areas in need. However to complete the job
and give our streets a new and uniform look a seal coat
has to be applied. We used a seal for our club house parking lot.
This
project requires an additional $50K, which need to go into the 2004
budget. Construction can start; weather permitting, right after the
budget has been approved. I would guess during spring 2004.
It
seems there will be no push back from the city council to the budget
request. However if there is, I will let you know and ask for your support
to help the city council to make the right decisions.
Best
Wishes,

NEIGHBORHOOD
UPDATE
Dear
Neighbors,
It is about time to give you a little update, about what is going on
in our neighborhood. We had a board meeting a week ago and put a few
actions together:
1.
Pool, Clubhouse and Tennis
All exterior and interior lights are working again. This hopefully will
give us sufficient deterrent to vandalism. One of our neighbors has
volunteered to install a clock and thermometer and the new signs for
the entrance and parking lot: "No solicitation" and "Members
only" are ordered. We are also working on a cost effective solution
to repair the main Berkeley Walk sign, which is rotten.
We
will be changing the pool, tennis and bathroom access codes mid August.
Please look out for an e-mail with the new codes.
Dan
Huntington is working through the red tape to get our new tennis stand
approved. If someone likes to give him a hand we might be able to speed
the process up. If you are interested, please give me a call.
And
one more thing: Please do not shave in the pool!

2.
Landscaping
We decided to form a committee to explore a new fence and lighting for
the entrance. Robin Kessler will be chairing the committee with the
objective to present a plan to the board by December and make a final
decision by January homeowner meeting. I encourage every one to participate
in this committee. This project could (!) cost us as much as the landscaping
changes and would require additional assessments.

3.
Social Events
We are planning a pool closing party for Mid September. Any volunteers
please step forward.
Last
spring some of our residents organized a yard sale. In the last homeowner
meeting we all thought it would be a good idea to have community yard
sales rather than everybody on their own. Susan Counts will be coordinating
a yard sale for this fall.
We
are also thinking on organizing a white water rafting tour.

4.
Covenants
Unfortunately our covenants enforcement officer resigned in June and
it took us until last week to hire a new person. Drive troughs will
start next week and we will pick up the process, where it was in June.
This means, if you had a notice and the reason for the violation still
or again exists you will be fined. Also recurring violation will be
fined straight away.

5. Speeding
Complaints about speeders in the neighborhood have increased again.
Without generalizing too much I have noticed specifically teenagers
and contractors disrespecting our neighborhoods safety. Please do your
part to improve the safety of Berkeley Walk. For those of you sharing
our concern, you can let us know when and where you noticed the speeders,
we than can direct the police to target the areas.

6.
Street Resurfacing
The city has started to repair damaged areas of our streets. Unfortunately,
we were not able to convince them to completely resurface our streets.
They first apply a permaflex coat to seal the pavement and prevent further
damage. Afterwards a topcoat, which looks nice, is laid over.
