News
from the Board
Welcome to the Berkeley Walk website. Our subdivision was initiated in 1994 and lies within the city limits of Berkeley Lake , Georgia , and includes 82 homes, pool, tennis courts and clubhouse. We have mandatory covenants and a homeowner annual fee, which covers all the costs of maintaining our amenities and pristine landscaping.
Berkeley Walk has a Board of Directors, which is elected on a staggering basis with a two-year service commitment. Meetings of the Board are held on the first Monday of each month, usually at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse, to which all residents of Berkeley Walk are invited. For the year 2006, the Directors and their e-mail addresses are:
President Barbara Carroll ( c4113073@aol.com )
Vice President Jeff Cooper ( lrcooper@bellsouth.net)
Secretary Keith Harris ( knharris@bellsouth.net )
Treasurer Dennis Perkins ( pdennisperkins@aol.com )
At Large Shawn Cochran ( shawncochran@bellsouth.net )
There are several social activities to be held during this year beginning with our pool-opening celebration to be held sometime in late May. We will be inviting our neighbors in the Berkeley Commons subdivision, which sits adjacent to our area and some of whose residents participate in the right-to-use program of our amenities. Anyone interested in offering a bit of time to help with this celebration can feel free to contact any one of the directors above.
At the time of our pool opening, we will be in need of 16-18 resident families, willing to be “pool angels”, who each night will go to the pool and close it up for the night. If you're willing to be one of these “angels”, let us know.
Our Covenants Committee drives/walks through the area on a monthly basis and sends out citation letters to residents not in compliance with covenant guidelines. If you receive one of these letters, your neighbors will be grateful if you respond as quickly as possible. If you do not agree with the citation, you may submit your explanation so that a resolution can be reached.
Barbara Carroll recently attended the homeowner association presidents' meeting held by Berkeley Lake Mayor Lois Salter. Items of interest announced and/or discussed:
*The city's new permit capability is now available to residents involved with renovation of their property. Craig Lokey is Berkeley Lake 's new building inspector and “go-to” person who works out of our city hall to issue permits for both the city and the county. This relieves Berkeley Lake residents of having to drive to Lawrenceville to acquire building permits.
*Annexation of Capital Commons, the multi-building commercial development adjacent to Berkeley Walk and Berkeley Commons, is about to be completed by the City of Berkeley Lake, allowing work to resume on the remaining eight buildings.
* Berkeley Lake 's twice yearly Earth Day will be held on Saturday, April 22, and has an added feature this year. There will be a truck available to accept not only general household items, as has been the case in the past, but also any computers, printers, fax machines and copy machines that you may wish to dispose of. These machines will be upgraded and donated to charitable organizations.
* Gwinnett County will be working on sidewalks up and down Berkeley Lake Road, from one end to the other where they do not currently exist. Upon their completion, Berkeley Walk bicycle-riding residents will be able to link up to the bicycle path on PIB.
*Free AJC advertising is available for community activities, such as garage sales and any other activities open to our community. Contact Jackie Wall, the City Clerk at city hall.
All Berkeley Walk residents are invited to attend City Council meetings which are held the third Thursday of every month at the Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Citizen comments and input are welcome at the end of each meeting.
Feel free to contact Directors with any questions you may have regarding Berkeley Walk.
